“Walking the city, my eye goes to the ground. At my feet I see the cracks, fissures, the wounds in the pavement caused by natural elements, by machines, by footwork. My desire to repair what has been broken while revealing new beauty borne out of the wound has led me to start this initiative. While the spirit of the initiative is reminiscent of Japanese kintsugi/kintsukuroi vessel restoration, for me it is through stitching and weaving imagery that I see repair, rather than filling the fissures, and the imagery that comes to me (the gold, the weaving) emanates from Greek mythology tales I read as a child. I thank the city of Athens, Greece for trusting me with this project in the historic Plaka district.”
